Found in the Coachella Valley of southern California, Cathedral City is affectionately referred to as Cat City by the residents. The name is a reminder of nearby Cathedral Canyon, to the south. Colonel Henry Washington picked this name for the canyon because the rock formations reminded him of a cathedral.
The city forms part of Riverside County, located between Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage. It is the second largest in population in the Coachella Valley. Downtown Cathedral City has enjoyed a revitalization program with a new city hall, movie theater complex, and acres of new and remodeled stores.

The majority of the Latinos live along Ramon Road between Cathedral Canyon Drive, Landau Boulevard and the Mid Valley Parkway. This was once referred to as “the Square Mile”. The varsity football, basketball and soccer teams have earned CIF-southern California championships in the past. There are four elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school in the city. The city is also home to Mayfield College.
